George Eustice MP has today joined over 500 other MPs to plant trees as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation initiatives to mark Her Majesty's lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.

The trees - two silver birch, two rowan, and a hazel – will be planted in the grounds of secondary schools across the constituency.

Shared Lives have been at the forefront of a campaign to reduce the use of plastics on the parliamentary estate, and that campaign has been a success with parliamentary authorities announcing a series of steps to reduce plastic waste.

George welcomes support for carers

George Eustice MP recently met up with Promas, a local Carer's company that provides free courses for unpaid carers in Cornwall.

The key focus of their work is on helping train carers to be able to deal with the health conditions they are managing and, crucially, to teach carers how to have regard for their own wellbeing. If a carer cracks under the strain, then no one benefits. The courses are a great way of offering support to carers who can often feel isolated.

Last weekend George took part in a beach clean at Godrevy Beach in partnership with the Marine Conservation Society. For several years, George has taken part in the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean which brings together volunteers from across the country to clean up litter and record the findings. At the event George was joined by many people who wanted to make a difference to their local environment.

Recently George took the time to visit Moseley Museum at Tumblydown Farm in Redruth. 

The museum showcases the engineering prowess behind the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. From riding behind former locomotives which actually worked in the Mines, to exploring the fantastic collections of Model Railways, the museum is a great place to go to learn about more of our unique heritage and even see a replica of The Murdoch Flyer.

The meeting was a great way to bring together MPs and voluntary sector organisations from across Cornwall to talk about a variety of matters from loneliness, to future funding arrangements for Cornwall, and looking at Social Action Projects.

George welcomes new unemployment figures

George recently visited the Job Centre at Redruth for an update on the local situation as far as employment is concerned and the roll out of the new Universal Credit. Unemployment is at its lowest level since the early 70's and is now significantly below the national average here in Camborne and Redruth. The total number of unemployed claimants for June 2018 was 840.
