New figures show that more than 200 people who were admitted to hospital with coronavirus have recovered.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) has said that 125 patients have been discharged from its hospitals after recovering from the virus.

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) said that 88 patients have made a successful recovery from COVID-19.

It means that in total 213 people who had to be hospitalised after falling ill with the virus have recovered.

RCHT operates Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske, West Cornwall Hospital and St Michael’s Hospital in Hayle. CPFT is responsible for community hospitals across Cornwall.

Sadly, according to figures supplied by NHS England, 64 people have died in RCHT hospitals as a result of the virus and another 26 at CPFT hospitals.

The figures for the number of people who have successfully recovered from the virus only covers those who were admitted inpatients in hospitals.

Last week RCHT chief executive Kate Shields was reported to have said that 150 people had recovered at the Trust’s hospitals but this figure included those who went to the hospital with symptoms but were not so unwell that they needed a prolonged stay at hospital.

Figures released from the Government indicate that there have been 594 positive cases of COVID-19 in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has the 13th lowest total of local authority areas in England.
