Environment Bill protest at Eustice office

A socially distanced protest at the Camborne office of the Secretary of State for the Environment, George Eustice, on Saturday, to protest at the failure of the new Environment Bill to address the real issues of the climate emergency.

Keeping strictly to government rules on social distancing, members of the Camborne, Redruth and Hayle Constituency Labour Party a laid a number of banners on the doorstep of Mr Eustice’s office and delivered a letter detailing their numerous concerns with the Bill.

Mr Eustice was not even in the chamber of the House of Commons when the bill passed through Parliament.

A spokesperson for the group said ‘this government has promised to put the environment at the centre of policy making but has singularly failed to do so. This is another example of government spin, just like the promises of David Cameron who, over a decade ago, pledged to lead ‘the greenest government ever’ before instructing his aides to ‘get rid of all the green crap’.

Politics on the beach

‘As evidenced by their disastrous handling of the Coronavirus pandemic, this is a party who have demonstrated their unfitness to govern, and who, despite their insistence that they listen to and are guided by the science, do exactly the opposite when it doesn’t suit the demands of the fossil fuel driven marketplace’.

George Eustice MP

‘How can we now believe a word either Mr Eustice or Mr Johnson says? As recent events have shown, perhaps we should ask the Prime Minister’s chief political adviser what their real policies are, as self-evidently it is Dominic Cummings who makes the real decisions in government’.
