Vandals targeting dog bins

A SPATE of vandalism targeting dog mess bins is costing taxpayers hundreds of pounds.

Vandals have carried out a series of attacks across Hayle and 13 bins have been damaged.

Cornwall Council is now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Cornwall Council environment officer Sue Nicholls said: "If this vandalism carries on we will be left without any dog mess bins and a real problem for dog owners."

The first two attacks, in St Erth, were reported to Cornwall Council on October 25. Staff discovered another six damaged bins in Hayle on October 28 and two days later vandalised bins were found in Angarrack and Reawla.

The latest acts of vandalism occurred over the weekend.

Julian German, Cornwall Council Cabinet member for the environment, said: "We cannot go on simply replacing equipment at the taxpayer's expense that just gets ripped down. If anyone has information about who might have been involved in these attacks I would urge them to come forward, either to us or the police."

Anybody with information should call Cornwall Council on 0300 1234202 or police on 08452 777444
