Fears laid to rest on Hayle Harbour plan | Derek Elliott Angarrack Hayle. | thisiscornwall.co.uk
Derek Elliott Angarrack Hayle.
A couple of weeks ago, on behalf of my constituents, I voiced concern about the development company ING and its proposed Hayle harbour development plan.I also mentioned that I had hoped Penwith District Council planning committee and officers would not grant outline permission without seeing a detailed plan of the first phase.
Today I can say to the people of Hayle, that after visiting the excellent public presentation which was on display in John Harvey House and, having met and discussed several issues of concern with Stephen Berry of ING and Jim Mckenna chief executive officer of Penwith, the majority of my worries have been laid to rest. Also, talking to a very enthusiastic Hayle mayor Paul Birch; chairman of Penwith, Joan Tanner; and Mathew Barton, head of sustainable development, I am extremely confident that this long-awaited and thoroughly deserved development will at last proceed.
To support the Wave Hub project, a new bridge to the north quay will be built, along with a new spine access road. These will supply access to both the wave hub itself and the new harbour and facilities.
There will also be provision for a Hilltop car park to serve, in part, the Wave Hub business park and for winter boat storage.
Closely allied to this will be the provision of a fisherman's support building, a new harbour office, and elements of residential development on the North Quay, Hilltop, and Riviere Fields.
Because of the county council's horrific decision to swallow us with a unitary authority, we only have 10 months left in which to progress this with the backing and help of Penwith District Council. Development is what we want, and I know that all our concerns will be fairly listened to before other decisions are made.
