  A
  new £1.5 million RNLI vehicle used to launch lifeboats from the beach
  became stranded overnight at Hayle after getting stuck in the sand.
  Crews are still working on putting its caterpillar tracks back on.

  are hoping to drive it off the beach tomorrow (Sunday). It's being
  dragged onto heavy metal plates to give it a firm platform, then being
  jacked up, the tracks will be reconnected and then if all goes well
  driven off the beach.
  It's
  not as serious as it has been reported, just a few teething problems
  that will be addressed before the vehicles are rolled out over the
  country.

  looks like a development of the experimental Supacat launch system that
  was tested at Hayle in 2007 with the prototype FCB2 lifeboat,
  subsequently abandoned. Supacat developed the tractors further for the
  RNLI and I think they have been deployed for
  the last year or two in various locations. I would imagine that these
  tests here are in anticipation of the new Shannon lifeboat coming to St
  Ives in a couple of months, which was also previously tested at Hayle in
  2013. It is the lifeboat that costs £1.5 million. The local RNLI
  branch has had to raise £100,000 for the new launch vehicle. They
  deserve our support, it's Hayle seafarers who will benefit. Usual
  lightweight BBC reporting.
