Hayle Praze Male Choir
One of West Cornwall's remaining male voice choirs is making an urgent appeal for a new musical director.
The secretary of Praze Hayle Male Choir says he fears that unless a new director is found, the choir may have to disband.
"We are a small choir of about 20 members and, having lost our last musical director, we need a new one," said Don Metcalf. "Unfortunately male voice singing is not as popular as it once was and the smaller choirs are struggling – the Newlyn choir disbanded a year or two ago and if we didn't find a new musical director we will find ourselves in a very perilous situation.

"But male voice choirs are part of the cultural heritage of Cornwall and we are determined to keep going if we possibly can."
Mr Metcalfe said that the choir was prepared to consider anyone with the appropriate musical background.
"We don't mind what age you are or what experience you have as long as you are prepared to lead and conduct the choir.
"It would be such a shame if the choir goes – if we don't find a new musical director we would either have to fold completely or adapt to a new, non-male choir form of singing."
The new musical director would be expected to attend the weekly two-hour rehearsals at the Methodist Church in Hayle every Tuesday evening as well as around 12 concerts a year. The position is remunerated through an honorarium.
Anyone interested in applying for the position, should contact Mr Metcalf on 01736 757720- Printer-friendly version
